Answers for Vocabulary Review 34

 Hello everyone,

From Privates' lessons:

  • Approve / Approves / Approved / Approving / Approval
  • Ideal / Ideals / Ideally / Idealistic
  • Influence / Influences / Influenced / Influencing / Influential

1. I would say that my mother has been the most influential person in my life. She has always supported me in everything I do and taught me to persevere and never give up.

2. I think that the plan you want to implement is too idealistic. There are too many uncontrollable external factors that makes executing it unrealistic.

3. We want to proceed with the execution of this plan, but we have yet to receive approval from the management.

Missionaries and Cannibals!

Hi all,

We are back! Did you enjoy your summer vacation?
Here's a little puzzle to start the new semester!

There are 3 Missionaries and 3 Cannibals on the left side of the river and they want to cross to the other side of the river, but there is only 1 boat.

The boat can only carry 2 people at any time and anyone can row it. Someone must always row the boat back from the other side and everybody must get off the boat when the boat reaches a riverbank.

The objective is to bring everyone to the other side of the river.

Here's the tricky part, at any point of time on either side of the river, if the Cannibals outnumber the Missionaries (i.e 3 Cannibals to 2 Missionaries, 2 Cannibals to 1 Missionary, etc), the Cannibals will eat the Missionaries there.

Can you bring everyone across safely without anyone getting hurt?

9 Dots Puzzle

Hi all,

Here's a little puzzle for you. Try to connect all nine dots below by drawing four connected straight lines without lifting your pen from the paper. Each dot must have only one line touching it, and you can't backtrack with your pen.

Can you do it?

Here's a famous and interesting puzzle devised by Albert Einstein. It's not that difficult if you have a pen and paper, but it does require patience and logic. See how long it takes you to figure it out! Let me know and have fun!

2. In each house there lives a person of a different nationality: Brit, Dane, German, Norwegian or Swede.
3. These 5 owners each drink a certain beverage: Beer, Coffee, Milk, Tea or Water.
4. They also smoke a certain brand of cigar: Bluemaster, Dunhill, Pall Mall, Prince or Blend.
5. Additionally, they also keep a certain type of pet: Cats, Birds, Dogs, Fish or Horses.
6. The owners DO NOT have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.
